On March 13, more than 200 students and teachers from across New York State visited the Capitol building to meet with legislators and advocate for continued support for Advanced Placement.

The visiting students and teachers came from various school districts in Albany, New York City, Rochester, and Saratoga Springs to urge lawmakers to maintain funding to cover AP exam fees for hardworking low-income students and to expand access in schools with few or no AP courses.

Students from Clara Barton High School for Health Professionals met with a staff member from Assemblyman Charles Barron’s office to support efforts around AP credit.

In addition to attending their meetings with legislators and staffers, the students heard from Assemblyman Victor Pichardo and Assemblywoman Latrice Walker. Both lawmakers encouraged students to advocate for themselves in school, life, and by voting for candidates who represent their interests.
